Surgery is a stressful time in life with often long and painful recoveries. Surgery often causes a temporary set back or pause in life, functional abilities, and independence in performing everyday occupations. The objective of post-operative rehabilitation is to understand and set goals, provide interventions to decrease pain, address incision health to prevent infections and complications with scarring, improve range of motion, provide temporary modifications to be able to perform everyday activities during recovery, improve strength, and help you regain independence in all of your occupations.
Manual therapy can help with pain management, stiff joints to improve range of motion, improve tissue flexibility, address scar adherence, which can cause pain or decreased range of motion, decrease edema, and improve overall function. Manual therapy is often hands on intervention performed by the treating therapist. There are many types of manual therapy that a therapist can utilize to address your areas of need.
Alta Rehab has extensive knowledge and experience in creating custom thermoplastic orthoses for the upper extremity (fingers, hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, arm, and shoulder). These are made custom fit to the patient to ensure least restriction with maximal protection. They are often more comfortable and fully modifiable over time if your needs change or swelling increases or decreases.
